JV's
The game started to look to be a little better contest for the JV Screamin Eagles. But long runs by Sean Nicholson and Nick “Nugget” Moquin got the offense going despite some timely penalties. Peyton Bickfords 40 yard touchdown run got the Eagles on the score board and they never looked back. On the next offensive possession, Bickford"s scored on a 15 yard Touchdown run. JV's
The JV Eagles team improved their record to 2-0 by beating the JV Cobras 36-6. The stingy Eagles defense has only given up 6 points in two games. Ian Routhier and Sean Nicholson (who played almost two entire games) led the D attack. Ryan McLaughlin recovered the initial kick off for the Eagles which was followed by a nice 35 yard run by the tireless Nicholson. An 8 yard TD by Justin Wanner and extra point by Franklin Diaz gave the Eagles a 8-0 lead that they would never relinquish. In the 2nd quarter after a Cobra score made it 8-6, Ethan Houle ran back the insuring kickoff to just over mid field which led to a 50 yard TD pass from Peyton Bickford to Patrick Leahy. The extra point run by Bickford made it 16-6 Goffstown. Additional td's by Wanner and Bickford with extra points by Nicholson, made it 30-6 Eagles. Then to end the game, on what was only his 4th carry ever, Jacob Lambert ran 55 yards for a touchdown. Eagles win 36-6.
Varsity Game
The Goffstown Screamin’ Eagles ran into a tough & gritty opponent in the 8th grade Salem Rams on Sunday (October 2nd, 2011). The opening minutes of the game started strong for the eagles but inevitabley a tight game and two huge special teams scores for the Salem Rams kick return team made the difference in the game. Salem beat the Eagles 20-18 handing them their second loss of the season. Goffstown now stands at 2-2 on the season. Playoff hopes are still alive with the Eagles but it may be necessary to win out the second half of the season to make it.
Jack Nordin started the game with some thump for the Eagles by sending the opening kickoff through the end zone. Jack then made back to back tackles dropping the Rams for consecutive loses. It seemed that for the most part on this day the Eagles had the Ram’s number on shutting down their offense. The defensive standouts for the Eagles were Ian Routhier (6 tackles), Casey Gervais (5 tackles), Zach Comeau (5 tackles) and Jack Nordine (5 tackles). Tim Comeau led the Eagles defense with 13 tackles on the day. TJ Urbanik also contributed 4 tackles and a blocked kick.
The Eagles offense was seeing some success against the Rams. TJ Urbanik ran for 122 yards and a TD. Damian Jackson added 34 yards and a TD on some tough running right through the gut of the defense. Zach Comeau added 50 yards of rushing & Patrick Leahy add 30 receiving yards and a TD. Goffstown’s failure to convert any extra points proved to be a tipping point in the final score.
#51 Meisner for the Salem Rams delivered not one but two kick returns for TD’s against the Eagles. It would appear that these special teams plays were the key to victory for Salem. Goffstown looks to rebound from this defeat next week against the Bedford Jaguars.
Varsity Game
Coming off a tough fought loss to Salem, the Screamin Eagles came back with a decisive win over the Bedford Jaguars 24-6. One thing rang evident from this game, a healthy TJ Urbanik is a force to be reckoned with. Urbanik totaled 149 yards rushing and receiving along with two touchdowns scored. However, the game did not start off the way Eagles wanted. Seemingly in control of the interior line, Bedford marched down field to score and put the Eagles on their heals 0-6 Jaguars. That did not last long. A 20 yard screen pass from Casey Gervais, who has matured into a skilled patient passer, to Damian Jackson got the offense going. Then Urbanik took a hand-off up the middle, breaking several tackles, for a 49 yard TD run. A nice little dump pass to Tim Comeau for the extra point made it 8-6 and the Eagles never looked back. In the 2nd quarter, the Eagles where looking at a 4th down and a mile for a first down. This didn’t phase the Eagles offense. Gervais rolled out to his right and showing incredible patients with a rush coming at him, waited till the right time to throw to Pat Leahy who ran 48 yards for the touchdown. With :40 seconds left in the 1st half, Urbanik ran a pass reception for 45 yards into the end zone to give the Eagles 24-6 lead at halftime. Defensive standouts for the Eagles were Cody Paquette, Marcus Henderson, Cam Gagnon and Otis Whipple. The Eagles outside linebacker, Sean Nicholson, played great with two quarterback sacks. Eagles win 24-6.
Varsity Game
In a wild high scoring game, the Screamin Eagles came away with a 38-22 win. On the very first possession for the Eagles, Damian Jackson got the Eagles on the scoreboard with a nice touchdown run. But rushing touchdowns took a backseat to Goffstown aerial attack. NorRock could not find an answer for the tandem of quarterback Casey Gervais and receiver Pat Leahy. The duo combined for 2 td's and 140 yards in this game. With an additional touchdown run by Justin Wanner, the first half ended with a 26-22 Goffstown lead. The 2nd half started strangely with kicker Jack Nordin recovering his own onside kick. This began a back and forth ball possession that resulted in no scoring for either team in the 3rd quarter. Then in the 4th quarter, with the game still close at 26-22, NorRock had to punt on 4th down. Goffstown's Cody Paquette drove a NorRock linemen into the backfield to cause a blocked punt that was recovered by Ethan Houle. This was big cause on the very next play, the Eagles scored on another nice rushing TD by Jackson. This took the wind out of NorRocks sails and sealed the game for the Eagles. Wanner added another TD to give Goffstown the 38-22 win. Ian Routher, Paquette, Tim Comeau and Otis Whipple played great defensively for the Eagles. The offensive line for the Eagles did a nice job giving Gervais enough time in the pocket all game long. The Eagles face Monadnock in their final regular season game next Saturday.
